なお残念ながら、スヴィンオックスは現在価格高騰によりHUISでは今後生産ができない生地となってしまっています。

ラキシマンさん来日

インドでスビンゴールドを育ててくださっているラキシマンさんが来日され、大正紡にもお越しいただきました。スビンゴールドについていろいろお話を伺うことができました。

※スビンゴールドは「スビン種」の1,2番摘みコットンを指し、ラキシマンさんが商標を取得されています。

スビンは非常に育てにくい品種です。
栽培期間は他の綿に比べて1-2か月長い、約240日かかります。期間が長いということは、それだけ水が必要であり、人手が必要であり、また天候不順や害虫被害のリスクも高まります。
また、栽培期間が短ければ、もう一度植えたり、収穫後にとうがらしなど他の作物を育てることも可能なため、農家さんの収入が増えます。しかしスビンは年一回しか植えられず、エーカー当たりの収穫量も、場合によっては半分ほどしか穫れないそうです。

スビン栽培は農家さんにとって決して魅力的ではありません。ラキシマンさん曰く、スビン栽培歴が長い農家さんはロイヤリティ（忠誠度）が高いため続けてくれるそうですが、それでも福利厚生を充実させる、買値をあげるなど毎年努力して説得し続けないといけないそうです。

こうした理由からわかるように、スビンゴールドは私たちの扱うコットンの中で最も高いものです。しかしながら、そのコットンとは思えない上品な光沢と、世界トップレベルの繊維の長さと細さ（繊度）から来る滑らかな肌触りは、間違いなく唯一無二です。

ラキシマンさんは自分のコットンに強い誇りを持っており、スビンの価値を守り続けてくださっています。私たちも、スビンゴールドの素晴らしい魅力をお客様に伝え続けることが役目だと考えています。

He came all the way from India to Japan this week and also visited us. We talked a lot about Suvin Gold.

*Suvin Gold is the first and second flush of suvin cotton and his trademarked product.

Suvin is a very difficult variety to grow.
It takes about 240 days to grow, 1-2 months longer than other indian cotton varieties. A longer growing season requires more water and manpower and also increases the risk of damage by bad weather or pests.
If the cultivation period is shorter, farmers could plant it again or grow another crops like peppers. Suvin, however, can only be planted once a year. Also the yield per acre is about 30-50% lower.

Growing Suvin seems to be kind of unattractive to farmers. He says the farmers who have been growing Suvin are loyal. But still he has to work every year to convince them to continue. Improving their benefits, raising the purchase price, and so on.

As you can see from the background above, Suvin Gold is the most expensive cotton we handle. And its elegance, which is not that of cotton, and its smooth texture, which comes from the world’s top staple length and fineness, are definitely one-of-a-kind.
